[NORTHAMPTONSHIRE COMMUNITY MESSAGING - Northamptonshire West - 07.07.09 - WB/CMS/269/09 - Crimestoppers]
This is a message from Northamptonshire West Police to all residents in Northamptonshire West.
Eight people were arrested in Northamptonshire during June as a result of information passed to Crimestoppers.
During the month, 62 pieces of actionable information were passed on to Northamptonshire Police by Crimestoppers and these led directly to eight arrests and five charges for various criminal offences across the county.
Police are keen to encourage even more people to call the charity - which is completely independent of any law enforcement organisation - to pass on information that they would be reluctant to give to the police.
The police rely on people coming forward with information about crime and criminals but know that for a variety of reasons, not everyone is comfortable with calling the police.
Crimestoppers offers people a way of passing on anything that they know without fear of being identified. The police never find out who has supplied the information and never try to find out, the Police simply take action on any crime that is identified.
Chair of Northamptonshire Crimestoppers Roger Nicklin said: "Having just taken over the Chair of Northamptonshire Crimestoppers I am delighted to note that calls to our Contact Centre continue to increase. However, not all people realise that Crimestoppers is an independent charity and is not part of the Police Service.
Calls to 0800 555 111 will always be personally answered, callers are totally anonymous, and we cannot trace calls or know who is calling. This means that callers cannot be identified to the police and will not be interviewed or asked to give evidence. If you have any concerns that someone in your community is involved in crime please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Call the Northamptonshire Police switchboard on 03000 111 222 or dial 999 in an emergency.
